Craigslist feeling aggressive lately

by greg on November 1, 2005

Everyone’s heard about Craigslist‘s banning Oodle from scraping their site. Fair enough, if Oodle really was being such a resource hog while simultaneously competiting with Craigslist. But I was somewhat surprised to hear that posts using the free-counter service “CraigsCounters” were being removed from Craigslist. After all, the service (which I wrote about here) gave posters valuable features that made Craigslist better. Killing off a service that makes your own all the more appealing doesn’t make any sense to me, especially when it doesn’t work with any of your competitors. Perhaps the ban was because of the name – which really just stressed that the site worked only with Craigslist. So now that the name is changed to CommunityCounters, I’m hopeful Craigslist will reallow the service, which I’d happily use- and I generate revenue for Craigslist through job postings.

From what I see in the discussion here, the owner of the service is waiting on Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster to get back to him… Craig Newmark, I know you do a good job tracking discussion about Craigslist across the blogosphere – maybe you could prod Jim along a bit?
