Hmmm, not a bad idea

Interesting TechCrunch bit on SimplyHired buying popunders of their web page to (among other things) inflate unique visitor numbers – including a comment by Markus about how prevalent this is in the dating industry.

Of course there’s tons of places to buy popunders, including from more reputable firms than WhenU. Going to file this one away in the ‘if I ever need this particular trick’ basket.

I’ve bought this sort of advertising before. In the case that I bought it, my company never used it as a trick. Buying traffic from these ad networks turned out to be ROI positive and helped drive users towards monetizable activities.

Just thought you might know that. A company doesn’t really have much to gain if they’re spending money on ad networks only to push up numbers.
