Targeting fatigue

by greg on November 5, 2007

I’m tired of reading about targeting platforms. Demographic targeting, behavioral targeting, geographic targeting – whether it’s offered by Facebook or MySpace or one of a dozen different startups. This sort of technology has been talked about and experimented with for a while now, and while it’s nice to see it going mainstream, it’s intellectually dull. Where’s the new thinking? Anyone see anything out there that truly strikes them as exciting?

To me, the only interesting thing is the scale. At least in our Canadian market the scale, it’s really unprecedented…

But I would have to agree that the excitement is really overblown, and there really isn’t any true innovation being brought up.
