For the last few years, I’ve made it a policy to help whomever I can whenever I can, even when I’m busy, even when they’re not in a position to help me back. I like being able to be useful to others – and although I try not to expect any sort of return for it, often enough something good happens in return. I got reminded of that today when one of the only people in recent memory I didn’t help out – nothing intentional, just got behind on my e-mail and forgot the request – suddenly turned up in a very relevant spot for my current business. Don’t think there’s any harm done, but the relationship could be in a much better place if I’d just made time for an hour conversation six months ago, back when I hadn’t the faintest conception of my current start-up. Nothing like a timely reminder of the usefulness of being a mensch.
By the way – I’m writing more frequently at the Pinch Media blog these days. Not just me, but a lot by me, primarily on the development of the iPhone application market (with annoucements about Pinch Media’s products and services mixed in.)
